Director’s Statement

With a background in Philosophy, my work as a filmmaker is driven by a quest to understand our existence and the world around us.

Time, an intricate and vital part of life, allows us to carry memories that form the essence of who we are. This film explores the intimate relationship between time and memory.

In 2018, my grandmother’s dementia diagnosis made me reconsider our connection to time and the fragility of our memories. As I grow older, my childhood memories have become more vivid, whether in dreams or sudden recollections. This has made me reflect on how aging often intensifies our longing for the past.

Leaving my hometown and parents in China at a young age to pursue my dream in the U.S., my memories of family are rooted in childhood. I fear that forgetting these memories might distance me from my parents. Yet, I believe that amidst the temporal nature of life, there is something eternal in our love for family.

“An Equal Sense of Eternity” seeks to capture this eternal bond within the temporal confines of our existence.
